my 5 favorite products for better sleep

i feel like sleep is the answer to all of our ailments. want better skin? sleep more. want to lose weight? sleep more. want to accomplish more during the day? sleep more. you get the picture…everything we want seems to require better sleep.

the problem is the majority of us struggle with sleep.

personally, i used to have tremendous insomnia. at it’s worst, when i was in law school, i probably averaged one hour per night. and it wasn’t because i was pulling all-nighters studying. i simply could not fall asleep.

throughout my wellness journey, my sleep has improved tremendously.

sleep is a loaded subject, and there are many potential reasons why you might not be sleeping well. i explore all of these in episode 72 (you can listen here on iTunes & here on Spotify). I also mention a few supplements, herbs, and products that are helpful, which I wanted to link here. Note: some of these links may be affiliate links.

Melatonin

Melatonin is an antioxidant that our brain releases in response to the sunset. It is a tremendously useful antioxidant for many health functions in our bodies, including detoxifying and Alzheimer’s prevention. it may be helpful for sleep, but probably a good idea to take it anyway. This brand is my absolute favorite.

Magensium Glycinate

Magnesium is a dream for sleep, and almost everyone is deficient in it. The key with magnesium is you want to take a glycinate preparation, all other formulations are not easily absorbed by the body. This brand is my favorite.

Herbs & Other Supplements

Valerian Root, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, and Passionflower are excellent herbs for rest. Additionally, L-theanine, an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves could be helpful. Studies show up to 400 mg of L-theanine may help sleep, especially when combined with GABA (another amino acid that is naturally occurring and functions as an amino acid in the brain). This supplement combines all of those ingredients, and is made by my favorite supplement brand that has only clean ingredients and zero fillers.

Red Light Glasses

BluBlox makes the only red light glasses on the market that are scientifically verified and effective. I love the aviator-shaped frames, but you can get whatever suits your style. I also recommend the clear lenses for daytime, and yellow lenses for daytime during the winter if you suffer from seasonal affective disorder. The red lenses are intended for after sundown.

Sleep Mask

Along with chic blue light lenses, BluBlox also makes this amazing sleep mask that blocks out 100% of light. It has a unique design that puts zero pressure on your eyes, you could even open your eyes and be in 100% darkness. It’s breathable, adjustable, and proven to increase restorative sleep phases - REM and Deep Sleep. Personally, I sleep much better when I wear this. Buy it here.
