Good Mood Foods

I believe in a holistic approach to everything. The mind and body are intrinsically connected. We’ve talked extensively about how physiological symptoms could have emotional causes. Similarly, emotional problems could have physical causes.

Whenever I find myself slipping into more depressive states, one of the first things I do is look at my diet. Getting the right vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enough fiber can have a dramatic impact on your mood. Here are a list of foods that can help elevate moods:

Algae & Seaweeds

algae & various seaweeds are filled with omega-3 fatty acids, which can boost mood

Cacao

cacao releases feel-good compounds like theobromine, and N-acylethanolamine

Probiotics & Fermented Foods

probiotics & fermented foods promote healthy gut bacteria; where feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin are produced

Bananas

bananas are high in vitamin B-6, which synthesize feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin

Berries

berries are high in antioxidants, including anthocyanins, which are linked with better moods

Nuts & Seeds

nuts & seeds are rich in tryptophan, an amino acid responsible for producing mood-boosting serotonin

Implementing these foods into your diet, along with lifestyle habits that boost happiness levels, will further expedite your results. Listen to episode 66, “5 SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN WAYS TO FEEL HAPPIER,” on iTunes, Spotify, and everywhere else you listen to podcasts to hear more.
