I was going to live in a house that had a big pool, I would lounge in a cute white cropped cami & shorts set and big bunny fuzzy slippers, and I would drive a convertible down a palm-tree lined street.

I basically envisioned my life as being a cross between Cher Horowitz and Cameron Diaz’ character from There’s Something About Mary.

Fuck it– Cameron Diaz’ character from every movie she was in.

That smile. That energy. The way her eyes glistened. She wasn’t just pretty, she was magnetic. There really was something about her. She seemed like someone who was effortlessly cool, vivacious, vibrant, and sparkly. She just seemed so perfect. I wanted to be perfect like that.

But my life was far from that.

Instead, I woke up every day feeling groggy & bloated.

I would hope for a good poo, but would get a mediocre one at best.

I would yearn for fun & excitement, but things were boring.

I would try to be cool & likable, but felt like a weird loser.

No matter how healthy I ate, how much water I drank, or which supplements I tried, nothing seemed to change.

No matter how much therapy I did, journals I filled, and affirmations I said, I still never showed up as the skinny, tan, confident version of myself that I pictured in my head.

Even when things were good for a bit—I started dating someone new who I loved, my belly was flat for a bit, and I felt good about myself—it all inevitably came crashing down.

I would start binge eating, I would get insecure, and eventually end up right where I started: a bloated, depressed, mess.

Before I founded the Blush Academy, I had been in therapy for 10 years. I had been meditating daily for 3 years. I had read every self-help book you can imagine, I tried every self-soothing technique you could think of. I said affirmations, I tried EFT, CBT, and so much more.

Yet nothing changed.

Things would get marginally better, but it never stuck.

No matter how good things would go for a bit, I would inevitably end up back at my starting point.

When I learned about neuroplasticity, everything changed.

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to change and adapt throughout life by forming new neural connections. This process allows you to learn new skills, recover from injuries, and adapt to changes in your environment. It means that your brain is not fixed but can reorganize itself by creating new pathways based on your experiences, thoughts, and behaviors.

I started doing more research into neuroscience, and found that our thoughts, beliefs, and actions stem from the neural circuits in our brains.

And the neural circuits are formed based on our past experiences.

When we experience embarrassing events, those imprint in our brains and create lasting grooves that dictate how we show up in the world.

For example, one time when I was in the 7th grade, I did a school project about Rosa Parks where I took the Destiny’s Child song, Independent Women, changed the lyrics to be about Rosa Parks’ life, and performed it for the class.

The teacher gave me a D, and the kids in class all laughed at me.

That incident caused a neural circuit in my brain that was terrified to be seen, that shunned any creativity, and wanted to just be the most basic version of myself.

Now this is where Neural ReWiring Practices (NRPs) come in!

Think of your brain like a piece of pottery.
